Madera Police officers were dispatched to the area of Yosemite Avenue and Gateway Drive following a report of a train versus pedestrian collision Thursday afternoon at about 4 p.m.
Upon arrival, officers found a 51-year-old male near the railroad tracks suffering from major traumatic injuries.
EMS personnel arrived on scene quickly and began life-saving measures. Despite the efforts, the victim succumbed to the injuries sustained in the collision.
The circumstances leading up to the incident remain under investigation. At this time, it is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
