Although it was the first game of the season, Madera Coyotes softball coach Judy Shaubach was pleased with how her team fared in the season opener against the Redwood Rangers at Zimmerman Field.

The Coyotes scored runs in the first four innings for a 4-2 victory Wednesday over the Rangers. Vivian Nombrano tossed a complete game five-hitter. She allowed two runs, one earned, and struck out 11 to open the season. She also reached base in all three of her plate appearances.

“I thought Vivian pitched well in her first game of the year,” Shaubach said. “We kind of took our foots off the gas a bit, but I thought we did well to put the ball in play and send it to all fields.”
