Young ladies and gentlemen dressed to the nines were delighted to attend a Fairy Tale occasion on April 5. Picture, if you will, the trappings and elegance of a fancy affair in yellow and blue. More than 125 students enrolled in the Madera County Office of Education regional programs enjoyed Spring Prom, a semi-formal event. The partygoers enjoyed dinner and dancing surrounded by red flowers to complement the “Be Our Guest — Beauty and the Beast,” themed event.
The soirée, hosted by Madera County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Cecilia Massetti, was held in the conference center of the Dr. Sally Frazier educational complex at the Madera County Office of Education on Madera Avenue.
The preparations for the dinner dance, itself a learning experience, taught students in the Adult Transition programs to craft corsages, boutonnieres, desserts and table settings. Many of the supplies were paid for with a gift card donation from the Madera Wal-Mart. The teachers, instructional aides and office staff pitched in to create the occasion. The affair was organized by Teresa Jorgensen program director and Yolanda Lua senior administrative assistant.
DiCicco’s Italian Restaurant catered the feast and disc jockey Paul Sanders provided the spirited music.
As with any event put on by MCOE, students in the adult transition program practiced their life skills and assisted in creating the professional looking cupcakes, corsages, boutonnieres and table settings.
“Fun times were had by all in attendance,” Jorgensen said.
