Shoe store suicide mars expansion

In 1917, Herman Brammer and his son, Will, decided to expand their shoe store and build that three story, brick building that still stands on the north side of Yosemite Avenue. At about the same time, they determined to bring Jim Brammer, Herman’s stepson, into the business by placing him in charge of the new […]
Sharing the good stuff

About half the people in my family called it dressing, and the other half called it stuffing. I think as a kid, I used the term dressing, but now I find myself saying stuffing. No matter what you call it, it is the same thing. My family has prepared it every Thanksgiving for generations. There […]
The re-carpeting project
After living in our house for 34 years, my husband and I decided to re-carpet. The original carpet had held up pretty well, but we knew it was time for a replacement. MCH opens family clinic

When American Advanced Management re-opened Madera Community Hospital earlier in the year, the next box to check was to re-open its clinics. Letters: It’s going to hit the fan
Well, the elections didn’t go the way I had hoped, but they did go the way I thought. Proposition 50 was a given, or a Gavin. California voters are predictable. East Coast, however, is a misunderstanding. They think the “Robin Hood” theory is a form of government. Socialism and Communism is a smoke screen. Kinda […]
Opinion: A future without smartphones?
Let me say at the outset that I hate smartphones. But, I’m not a complete technophobe. I’ve had computers for 45 or more years. My hybrid car probably has more embedded computers than I have functioning neurons in my brain. And when I get ready to forward this column to the newspaper, I’ll do so […]
