1 dead after running stop sign

A 30-year-old woman from Merced reportedly ran a stop sign as she was southbound on Avenue 13 directly into the path of a semi truck moving westbound on Highway 152, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The woman’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of family.

No other injuries were reported in the collision.

The fatal collision happened Thursday afternoon about 5 p.m., just south and west of Chowchilla.

The woman was driving a 2003 Infiniti sedan when she pulled out in front of the 2017 Freightliner and was struck on the left side. She was pinned inside the car and pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation for possible distracted driving or the involvement of drugs or alcohol. Toxicology reports are pending.

Officers say driving deserves all your attention and urge all drivers to slow down and be aware of their surroundings.
