Perhaps it is because they are on their third head coach in three years, or the fact that they have been beset by injuries to key players, but if there was ever a time to knock off the Clovis West Golden Eagles, the defending Central Section Div. I champions, it is now.
So while the Coyotes are certainly limping into the Friday night matchup at Veterans Stadium with a litany of their own problems, namely a threegame Tri-River Athletic Conference losing skid in which they have been outscored a combined 173-47, the Golden Eagles are ripe for a loss.
The Golden Eagles are just 3-5 on the season and 1-2 in TRAC play suffering a 24-3 blowout loss to Fresno Central and a 38-14 throttling by Clovis Buchanan. They did come back last week to defeat Clovis East 21-14 but this is not a team playing as they were hyped heading into the season.
This is not to say that Clovis West does not have some bona fide talent, but the lack of a solid starting quarterback with the ability to throw and demonstrate leadership has compromised an otherwise fairly good offensive team.
