Hawks stunned by Chieftains

Saturday, October 31, 2009

By Tyler Takeda

The Sierra-Tollhouse Chieftains scored a touchdown with less than a minute to play and converted the two-point conversion to stun the Liberty Hawks, 22-21, Friday night at Hawk Field.

Liberty came back from a 14-0 half-time deficit to score three second-half touchdowns with the final one coming with 5:56 left in the fourth quarter.

Sierra forced a Liberty punt and took over at its own 24 with 2:21 left in the game. A 21-yard run and a 42-yard pass play from Colton Zimmerman to Trevor Baker put the ball on the 10-yard line with 1:20 left in the game.

Zimmerman kept on an option and scored from five yards away for the touchdown. Gavin Hamilton burst through the line to make the two-point conversion and give the Chieftains the lead.
