Madera chamber announces Lifetime Achievement recipients

The Madera Chamber of Commerce has announced the winners of its annual Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The Lifetime Achievement honorees must have significantly demonstrated a history of dedication to Madera within three of the following areas: economic development, education, cultural enhancement, advancement of health care, public policy, government relations, business and community relations and quality of life.

They are Barbara Basila, Baldwin Moy, Dr. Theodore Nassar and Memorial Award Winner, Eddie Chapa.

A new award added this year is the 4 Under 40, honoring young people in business who are 40 years old or younger.

The 4 Under 40 winners are Ranjit “R.C.” Chahal, Julie Herd, Ritesh “Rick” Patel and Beau Miracle.

Eddie Chapa was a longtime baseball fan and promoter, having played for merchant teams and worked to improve ball fields for Madera High School. The Madera South High School baseball field is named after him.

Barbara Basila is a longtime, top-selling Realtor with Coldwell Banker H&L Real Estate. She has been a real estate agent for 39 years and has sold some 9.2 times the average number of homes as other agents in the area. She also has been active in civic affairs.

Baldwin Moy is an attorney in Madera for California Rural Legal Assistance, and works with young people and migrant laborers to provide legal assistance in the areas of California Rural Legal Assistance, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit legal and political advocacy group that promotes the interests of migrant laborers and the rural poor. The organization provides legal assistance in the areas of employment and labor, housing and eviction, health, public benefits, and educational access.

Dr. Theodore Nassar is an obstetrician and gynecologist in Madera, practicing for more than 50 years. He is affiliated with Madera Community Hospital, Saint Agnes Medical Center, and Community Regional Medical Center.

The Lifetime Achievement Awards and Installation Dinner will be held Thursday, Aug. 15, beginning at 6 p.m. in Hatfield Hall on the Madera Fairgrounds. The cost is $55 per person.
