Madera physician earns his board certification in infectious disease

For The Madera Tribune Bakht Roshan, MD, has successfully completed board certification in infectious disease from the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Bakht Roshan, MD, has successfully completed board certification in infectious disease from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), according to a news release from Madera Community Hospital.

Board certification from ABIM is the highest standard in internal medicine and its subspecialties, said Sherrie Bakke, the hospital’s business development officer. ABIM certified physicians have demonstrated to their peers and to the public that they have the clinical judgment, skills and attitudes essential for providing excellent patient care, she said.

Dr. Roshan joined Madera Community Hospital’s medical staff in August of 2017, after successful completion of a fellowship in infectious disease from the University of California San Francisco, UCSF-Fresno, and nearly 16 years of clinical research. “Madera Community Hospital is on a constant quest to improve patient safety and clinical outcomes,” said Karen Paolinelli, chief executive officer, Madera Community Hospital.

“Recruiting an infectious disease specialist supports our patient safety initiatives by leading internal efforts to reduce hospital-acquired infections and educating and collaborating with community-based long-term care facilities for appropriate antibiotic use,” added Paolinelli. “It is unusual, for a community of our size, to have an infectious disease specialist. Yet the medical specialty is essential in keeping patient safety at the forefront of our care.”

Board certification is voluntary and includes an exam which tests a physician’s ability to diagnose and treat patients with a broad range of conditions. To maintain certification, physicians participate in activities assessing knowledge of the latest scientific developments and changes in practice and in specialty areas.

“I, along with our colleagues, congratulate Dr. Roshan on his board certification,” said Mohammad Ashraf, MD, Cardiology, Madera Community Hospital Chief of Staff. “Dr. Roshan is a skilled practitioner and his clinical expertise is a valued resource,” added Dr. Ashraf.

In addition to consulting and treating inpatients at Madera Community Hospital, Dr. Roshan has developed a successful outpatient practice with Affiliated Physician Practice, on Almond Avenue in Madera, and treats patients at Family Health Services Medical Specialty Clinic.
