MadTown Robotics takes top spot

Wendy Alexander/The Madera Tribune As volunteers reset the field, more than 40 teams competed at the ninth annual MadTown Throwdown this weekend with Madera’s MadTown Robotics winning the title with three other teams.

MadTown Robotics defended its own turf at the ninth annual MadTown ThrowDown over the weekend in Joe Flores Gym.

MadTown teamed with The Cheesy Poofs, out of Davis, and Sleuth Robotics, from Central High School, to win the overall championship.

More than 40 teams competed in the two-day event that featured more than 100 matches. Alliances of three teams competed against each other in a battle for control of switches and scales while using power cubes.

Madera placed fourth out of 4,000 teams in the international competition in Houston a few weeks ago.

The MadTown ThrowDown featured three of the top five teams in the world. The ThrowDown is also the final competition of the current “game.”

Teams will receive a new “game” in December and get six weeks to build a bot for competition.
