FRESNO - The California Department of Transportation will soon begin a Fog Pilot Program along State Route 99 in an effort to reduce the severity of multivehicle accidents.

The California Highway Patrol will also starts its Pace Program to assist in slowing traffic when visibility is less than 500 feet.

The fog season in the Central Valley typically begins during the month of November and continues through February.

The integrated electronics devices that will make-up the Fog Pilot Project include weather stations, microwave vehicle/motion detectors and visibility sensors that will communicate information regarding potentially hazardous road conditions directly to drivers by way of dozens of changeable message signs posted along the project corridor.
