Mo's Musings: 'Don't be fooled, again'

So sang the Who way back then. But speaking of today (or maybe Ten Years After, another band from that era), listeners, viewers and the gullible seem forever foxed, fooled and fleeced by the fluctuating, self-serving radio and television show hosts of today's news services, be it right or left.
However, locally don't be deceived by a recent mass mailing from Fresno Community Food Bank asking for donations for Fresno and Madera counties. According to reader Kathleen Castillo of our local food bank, their donations do not go to Madera. She suggests anyone who wants to help our own needy to donate directly to our own Madera Community Food Bank.

Seeing the light ... and a lot of other things more clear now that my certified optician Rogina Belmontes has fitted me with a new pair of spectacles. For years I had purchased my glasses in Fresno, but in yet another effort to shop Madera when at all possible I waltzed (okay, hobbled) over to Rogina's place on Cleveland Avenue to find a nice selection of frames and picked one out just for yours truly. Rogina had everything ready in a time that once was to referred to as "spiffy." Or was that the way I used to dress?

Though he wasn't laughing much on the sidelines during his team's loss to the New Orleans Saints on Monday night, this scribe thinks it is obvious that Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith could pass as comedian Steve Martin if he would take off the headphones and replace them with Martin's well-known arrow through the head gimmick.
