Computers track workout at gym

A technology meant to improve one's own existing exercise program is now being offered by one fitness center in north Madera County.

Small, unobtrusive monitors are mounted on each exercise machine to help members monitor their workouts.

My good friend, Kathy, asked me if there were any books about the "Murder, She Wrote" television series. I didn't know but I vowed to find out, and I did. There are lots of them.

They are supposedly written by "Jessica Fletcher" and Donald Bain. Since Jessica Fletcher is a fictitious name, I am assuming (after web research) that Donald Bain actually writes them. He has written 90 some books and is a popular ghostwriter.

Preschool affects Madera County's economic vitality

There is no doubting the fact that studies prove children who have access to high-quality prekindergarten (preschool) experiences tend to demonstrate increased success in elementary school, high school and even on through adulthood.

However, contrary to the public school system that makes kindergarten through 12th grade free and accessible to all children, public preschool programs are funded by separate state and federal programs that regulate access (i.e., the number of preschool slots, income eligibility requirements, etc.), which limits the ability to serve all children.

Weather: Sunny skies with a high of 104 to 110 with a heat advisory in effect until Saturday, and low of 66 to 74 with northwest winds at 10 mph.

Symposium planned: Cardiologist Dr. Ranjit Singh Rajpal and the Fresno Madera Medical Society announced plans for its annual symposium. The seminar was scheduled for Sept. 22 at the Madera Municipal Golf Course.
